Latex is becoming an increasingly popular material to find in mattresses—and for good reason. It not only provides excellent support and pressure relief, but it’s also nontoxic and eco-friendly.
Saatva has two latex mattresses in its product lineup, Saatva Latex Hybrid and Zenhaven. Both mattresses are made with natural latex and come with Saatva’s signature 365-night trial, lifetime warranty, and 24/7 customer support.
These two mattresses aren’t exactly the same, though. Here, we break down the key differences between Saatva Latex Hybrid and Zenhaven so you can determine which one is right for you.
1. Mattress construction
Saatva Latex Hybrid is, as its name suggests, a hybrid mattress. That means it features an innerspring base and is topped with a latex comfort layer. The base is made of three distinct types of recycled steel coils that support and contour to your body and minimize motion transfer. The coil base is topped with a 3-inch layer of 5-zone natural latex, which provides additional support in the lumbar region.
Zenhaven is made solely of natural latex, without springs. The natural material is highly resilient and durable to give you long-lasting support while you sleep. The latex support core is topped with 5-zone natural latex that provides additional support in the lumbar region and contours to your body for maximum pressure-point relief.
Because of the different ways they are constructed, each of these mattresses has a very different feel. Saatva Latex Hybrid feels like a classic innerspring mattress, with added buoyancy from the latex later. Zenhaven is conforming yet responsive—it feels like you’re floating on top of the mattress.
2. Comfort levels
Saatva uses a scale of 1-10 (with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest) to describe how firm each of our comfort levels feels. Saatva Latex Hybrid comes in Luxury Plush, a medium firm comfort level that falls in the 4-5 range on our scale. This medium comfort level is suitable for all sleep positions.
Zenhaven is a flippable mattress—one side is Luxury Plush (a 4-5 on our comfort scale), and on the other side is Gentle Firm (a 7-8 on our comfort scale). Zenhaven’s Luxury Plush is preferred by 80% of our customers and is a good option for back, side, and stomach sleepers. Gentle Firm is ideal for stomach sleepers or anyone who prefers the feel of a firm mattress.
3. Pillow top
A pillow top is an extra layer of cushioning on the top surface of the mattress. Pillow tops are most commonly found on innerspring or hybrid mattresses for added comfort.
Saatva Latex Hybrid has a Euro pillow top, meaning the padding is underneath the top cover and is flush with the mattress edges, so it doesn’t look like an extra layer sitting on top of the mattress and will never shift or bunch.
Saatva Latex Hybrid is also hand-tufted to help lock mattress layers in place to ensure no shifting or wrinkling. Saatva Latex Hybrid stands 13″ high.
Because it’s a fully latex mattress, Zenhaven doesn’t have an added pillow top. It stands 10″ high.
Both mattresses are wrapped in soft, breathable organic cotton that’s been protected with Guardin®, our exclusive botanical antimicrobial treatment.
Mattresses made entirely of latex are more expensive than latex hybrid mattresses due to the cost of harvesting and processing the natural material.
Here’s the breakdown of our pricing for comparison:
Saatva Latex Hybrid: $2,195 (queen)
Zenhaven: $3,195 (queen)
